Reporting An Exposure Incident

An exposure is any contact between one person's blood or body fluids with the broken skin or mucous membranes of another person through a needle stick, puncture wound, bite, or prolonged exposure to a large volume of blood.

 
If an Exposure Occurs
  1. Wash hands or exposed skin immediately with soap and water.
  2. Flush eyes or other exposed mucous membranes with running water.
  3. Report incident immediately to your principal, or supervisor.
  4. Contact a School Nurse.
Important Note for Employees
If the employee cannot contact their principal, or supervisor, he or she should contact a School Nurse directly
To Protect Yourself
  1. Avoid direct contact with blood or body fluids.
  2. Wear gloves if blood or body fluids are present.
  3. Wash hands after using gloves.
