Notification: Community Presentation - Supporting Our Families and Protecting Our Children After A Suicide
Presented by Greg A Marley, LCSW, Clinical Director NAMI Maine
Dear Staff and Families:
This letter is to inform you there will be a presentation and discussion about suicide awareness delivered by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Maine, on Tuesday evening June 21, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. in the Forum at Mt. Ararat High School. Enter via door 6 by the gym.
When a suicide happens in our community, the shock and the grief makes everyone feel less safe; when the loss involved a young person, our concern over safety grows. Providing support for a community after a suicide loss allows the time and opportunity to grieve and to actively address the needs of those people most affected by the loss.
We invite you to take part in a presentation by Greg Marley, a leading expert in suicide prevention and response in Maine, as he talks about the grief following a suicide and how to care for ourselves and our children in the aftermath of this tragedy. Mr. Marley will also address the leading causes and signs of suicide to prepare families and the community as a resource for suicide prevention for anyone at risk. Suicide prevention is up to us all and now, more than ever, we need to know what we can do to support our children.
This talk is for parents, grandparents, adults and adolescent family members, school staff and anyone in the community feeling the effects of this loss who want to support suicide prevention.
For more information contact Amy Hamilton, District Mental Health Supervisor, at (207) 729-9961 x 1017, or [email protected]. If you or anyone you know needs immediate assistance call the Maine 24-hour Crisis Hotline 1-888-568-1112.
Sincerely,
Robert J. Lucy
